Bevill State Community College

Programs Offered: Certification in EMT Basic and EMT Paramedic; Associate of Applied Science Degree in EMT Paramedic

The EMT Paramedic program leads to either certification (short-term program) or an Associate in Applied Science degree (long-term program). The Paramedic long-term program includes 77 credit hours and the Paramedic short-term program takes 4 semesters to complete and includes 47 credit hours. Future students must already have an Alabama EMT Basic license to begin either program. Both of these programs prepare students to take the National Registry of EMTs Paramedic Exam and, upon successful completion of the exam, obtain an Alabama EMT Paramedic license.
The EMT Basic program includes 27 credit hours and leads to EMT Basic certification. Future students must have a high school diploma or GED to begin this program.



Bishop State Community College

Programs Offered: Certification in EMT Basic, EMT Advanced, and EMT Paramedic; Associate of Applied Science Degree in EMT Paramedic

Bishop State Community College offers EMT training at all levels, as well as an AAS Degree in EMT Paramedic. EMT Basic training is one semester and once this semester is successfully completed, graduates are eligible to sit for the National Registry Exam to gain Alabama licensure. Students may then begin Advanced EMT training and be awarded certification after successful completion of the one semester program.
Finally, graduates may then pursue Paramedic training to obtain either certification or an AAS Degree. This program is three semesters long and licensure in AEMT must be gained before beginning Paramedic training.
Along with tuition, students must be prepared to pay for a uniform, liability insurance, background check, drug screening, CPR certification, vaccinations, National Board Exam and graduation fees.



Calhoun Community College

Calhoun Community College offers EMT training at the Basic and Advanced levels every semester. Both daytime and evening classes are offered and each program is one semester. EMT Basic training is 12 credit hours. Upon successful completion of EMT Basic, students may enroll in Advanced EMT (AEMT) training, which includes 14 credit hours.
Once students obtain licensure in AEMT they are eligible to enroll in the EMT Paramedic program. This program is three semesters long and leads to certification or an Associate’s Degree. Courses for the EMT Paramedic program begin every summer semester and include a minimum of 73 credit hours.



Faulkner State Community College

Programs Offered: Certification in EMT Basic, EMT Advanced, and EMT Paramedic; Associate of Applied Science Degree in EMT Paramedic

Faulkner offers EMT training at all levels. The EMT Basic and Advanced programs are both career programs, 10 credit hours each and each take one semester to complete. Both programs enable students to sit for the National Registry Exam, and once successfully completed, gain EMT certificates.
The EMT Paramedic programs can lead to either certification or an Associate’s Degree. The EMT Paramedic Certificate program is three semesters long, 46 credit hours and is offered as a full time program. The Associate’s in Applied Science Degree program is a two year program that includes 76 credit hours. Students will be awarded a degree and be eligible to sit for the National Registry Exam and gain EMT licensure.



Gadsden State Community College

Gadsden State Community College offers EMT certification at the Basic and Paramedic levels, as well as an AAS Degree in EMT Paramedics. Those who complete EMT Basic and EMT Paramedic programs will be awarded in-house institutional program certificates.
Students who want to continue with their EMT training can take additional courses to gain an Associate in Applied Science Degree. These additional courses include English, Human Anatomy and Physiology and Psychology. Along with these courses, students will also take professional and major courses including EMS Basic Theory and Lab, Paramedic Preparatory, Paramedic Operations, Pharmacology, Medical Patient Management and much more. Students will gain both classroom and field instruction. Upon successful completion of this course, students will sit for the National Registry Exam to obtain Alabama EMT Paramedic licensure.



Jefferson State Community College

The EMS program at Jefferson State Community College is conveniently located at four different campuses in Alabama. This program is accredited by the CAAHEP and offers certification at both the basic and advanced levels, as well as offers an Associate in Applied Science Degree in EMT Paramedic.
The EMT Basic program can be completed in one semester and allows students to be eligible to sit for the National Registry Examination to gain Alabama licensure. EMT Advanced training includes one more additional semester of training and must be completed for those who want to gain Paramedic training.
The EMT Paramedic program is a three semester program. Students who successfully complete this program will be eligible to sit for the National Registry Examination and gain licensure at the Paramedic level, as well as gain an AAS Degree.



Lurleen B. Wallace Community College

Lurleen B. Wallace Community College offers Emergency Medical Technician training programs that are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
Students who enroll in one of these programs will be trained by licensed paramedics who hold academic degrees and have several years of experience in the field. Training includes both in-class lecture and instruction as well as field and hands-on training.
Students may begin training at the EMT Basic level. Once this one semester program is completed, graduates may then go on to gain Paramedic training and gain either certification or an Associate in Applied Science Degree. The EMT Paramedic program takes five semesters to complete and classes are offered two nights per week. Upon successful completion of each program, graduates will be eligible to sit for the National Registry Examination.



Northeast Alabama Community College

Programs Offered: Certification in EMT Basic and EMT Paramedic; Associate of Applied Science Degree in EMT Paramedic

EMT Basic training can be completed at Northeast Alabama Community College in one semester of 10 credit hours. This program will give students the essentials needed for obtaining an EMT license to provide basic life support to the sick or injured.
Those who would like to advance in their EMT career may do so via the EMT Paramedic certificate program or the EMT Paramedic AAS degree program. Both of these programs will enable individuals to provide advanced life support including cardiac monitoring, defibrillation, administration of medications and more. The certificate program includes 54 credit hours of training and students must possess an Alabama EMT Basic license as well as be CPR Certified. The AAS program includes 63-67 credit hours, which include EMT training courses as well as English, Humanities, Science, Math and Behavioral Science courses.



Northwest-Shoals Community College

Programs Offered: Certification in EMT Basic, EMT Advanced and EMT Paramedic

Northwest-Shoals Community College has two different locations where EMT training can be completed. Successful completion of EMT training will enable students to gain licensure at the EMT Basic, EMT Advanced or EMT Paramedic levels. All of these programs are accredited by the CAAHEP.
The EMT Basic program is 11 credit hours and includes both theory and lab training. The EMT Advanced program is also 11 credit hours, includes both theory and lab training, and builds on the foundation of training that is set in EMT Basic courses.
The EMT Paramedic program is a total of 53 semester credit hours. Not only will students be trained in EMT courses that involve classroom, lab and field settings, they must also complete courses such as English Composition I, College Algebra and Anatomy and Physiology. This program costs a total of $7,980 which includes tuition, tools, books and supplies.



Southern Union State Community College

Programs Offered: Certification in EMT Basic, EMT Advanced and EMT Paramedic; Associate of Applied Science Degree in EMT Paramedic

EMT Basic training is offered every semester at Southern Union State Community College. Students may choose to take courses during the day or during the evening. Students who choose the evening program will sit in classes three nights a week, while the day program is 2-3 days per each week.
EMT Advanced training is offered in the fall and spring semesters. The program is 1 semester long, 10 credit hours and must be completed to move on to EMT Paramedic training.
The EMT Paramedic program is a total of three semesters and begins every summer. Students must have completed EMT training and obtained EMT Basic and EMT Advanced licensure before joining the Paramedic program. The EMT Program that leads to certification is a total of 60 credit hours and the AAS Paramedic program is 73 credit hours.



Trenholm State Technical College

Programs Offered: Certification EMT Paramedic; Associate of Applied Science Degree in EMT Paramedic

H. Council Trenholm State College offers an accredited EMT program that can lead to certification or an Associate in Applied Science Degree.
Through these programs, students will be trained to provide advanced life support in the hospital or pre-hospital setting for ill or injured persons. They will be trained in both the classroom and clinical settings and will gain knowledge on topics such as advanced traumatic injury care, acute medical emergency care, EKG administration, endotrachael intubation and much more. According to Trenholm State, job placement rates run 100% upon graduation.
The AAS EMT Paramedic program is 5-6 terms, 76 credit hours and tuition is $6,840. The certificate EMT Paramedic program is 5 terms, 53 credit hours and tuition is $4,770.



University of South Alabama

Programs Offered: Certification in EMT Basic, EMT Advanced and EMT Paramedic; Bachelor of Science Degree in EMS

The EMT Basic program at University of South Alabama will prepare individuals to work in pre-hospital emergency settings. This program is one semester long and is 8 credit hours. Students must be CPR certified to begin this training.
The EMT Advanced program is 9 credit hours and can be completed in one semester. To begin this training, individuals must have a current Alabama state EMT license. This program builds on the foundations of the EMT Basic program and will prepare and enable students to begin Paramedic training.
The Paramedic certificate program is three semesters long and is a total of 31 credit hours. Students will have classroom and clinical instruction as well as an internship. The BS in EMS program is a total of 63 hours and can be completed over five semesters.



Wallace Community College

Programs Offered: Certification in EMT Basic and EMT Paramedic; Associate of Applied Science Degree in EMT Paramedic

Wallace Community College offers EMS training at their Wallace Campus located in Dothan, AL. At WCC, students can gain training and certification at the EMT Basic and EMT Paramedic levels. Students may also continue training to obtain and Associate in Applied Science Degree in EMT Paramedic.
Students who attend WCC for EMT training will be educated in theory, demonstration and laboratory studies. Students may be accepted into these programs throughout the year. Once accepted to the program, students must maintain an 80% in EMT courses to be eligible to sit for the National Registry Exam. Once students successfully pass the exam they may then be licensed as an EMT at their respective levels. They may also choose to continue in their studies to gain an AAS Degree in EMT Paramedics.
The EMT Basic program is 10 credit hours and the EMT Paramedic program is 68 credit hours.



Wallace State Community College

Those who wish to gain training in Emergency Medical Services and live in or near Hanceville, AL, will be pleased to know that Wallace State Community College offers EMT training at all levels. By completing EMT courses at WSCC, students may be eligible to gain certification in EMT Basic, Advanced or Paramedic, as well as continue their education to receive an AAS Degree in EMT Paramedic.
The EMT Basic and EMT Advanced programs are 1 semester each. The EMT Paramedic certificate program is 3 semesters and the AAS Degree for EMT Paramedics is 5 semesters. Upon successful completion of each program, students will be eligible to sit for the National Registry Exam at their respective levels to gain EMT licensure.



Alabama Fire College

Programs Offered: Certification in EMT Basic, EMT Advanced, and EMT Paramedic

Alabama Fire College offers EMT Basic, Advanced and Paramedic training programs. Each of the programs is based on the NHTSA National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards.
The EMT Basic program is 228 hours of training in theory and application. Topics discussed include EMS preparatory, airway maintenance, patient assessment and more.
The EMT Advanced Program builds on basic training by preparing students to perform and understand intravenous access and fluid therapy, medication administration, traumatic injuries and more. This program is 296 hours.
Finally, the Paramedic program, which consists of 1243 hours of training, provides training in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, International Trauma Life Support, Emergency Vehicle Operations and much more.



Chattahoochee Valley Community College

Programs Offered: Certification in EMT Basic and EMT Advanced

Chattahoochee Valley Community College offers EMT training at both the Basic and Advanced levels. Each program will lead to certification at their prospective levels.
The Basic and Advanced program consist of one semester each and include both class and clinical training. EMT Basic training is 11 credit hours and EMT Advanced training is 10 credit hours. These credit hours will be split between classroom instruction and clinical rotation.
Upon successful completion of each program, students will be eligible to sit for the National Registry Exam. Once students successfully pass the exam they will be enabled to obtain Alabama licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician or an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician.



Fortis Institute

Programs Offered: Certification in EMT Paramedic

Location: Birmingham (100 London Parkway Suite 150, Birmingham, AL 35211)

The Fortis Institute, located in Birmingham, Alabama, offers EMT Paramedic training. Once training is completed, students will be eligible to gain an EMT Paramedic license.
This EMT training program will provide students with the necessary skills to perform advanced life support in emergency medical situations. These skills will be necessary in careers that include working on an ambulance, in a fire department or at a hospital. Once training is completed, and upon successful completion of this program, graduates will be eligible to take the National Registry Exam. Once graduates pass the exam they will then be able to obtain an Alabama licensure in EMT Paramedic. Students will gain both classroom and hands-on training and be prepared to work and perform a variety of medical needs through the Fortis Institute.



Herzing University

Programs Offered: Certification in EMT Basic; Associate of Applied Science Degree in EMT Paramedic

Location: Birmingham (280 West Valley Ave, Birmingham, AL 35209)

Herzing University is located in Birmingham and offers EMT training at both the Basic and Paramedic levels. Students who study EMT Basic may gain and EMT certificate. Students who study EMT Paramedic will gain an Associate in Applied Science Degree.
The EMT Basic program is 11 credit hours and will take 4 months to complete. This program allows students to be eligible to sit for the National Registry Exam and gain Alabama EMT licensure. The EMT Paramedic program is 48 credit hours. This program can be completed in one year. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to serve ill or injured patients who are facing emergency medical situations and who may need advanced life support.



Lawson State Community College

Programs Offered: Certification in EMT Basic

Lawson State Community College offers EMS training at the EMT Basic level. The EMT training program will enable students to obtain an Alabama license in the initial training level of EMS services.
The EMT program will prepare students to provide basic health care and life support to ill or injured patients in an emergency setting. It is a 13 credit hour program that includes training in EMS Basic Theory and Lab, Basic Clinical Competencies and Decision Making in EMS. This training can be completed in one semester and classes are offered during both the day and in the evening. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be eligible to sit for the National Registry of EMT Basic Examination to gain licensure.



University of West Alabama

Programs Offered: Certification in EMT Basic, EMT Intermediate and EMT Paramedic; Associate of Applied Science Degree in EMT Paramedic

Location: Livingston (100 U.S. 11, Livingston, AL 35470)

The University of West Alabama works in partnership with Wallace State Community College to help students complete training courses in allied health fields. Students complete academic course work at the University of West Alabama and then will transfer to Wallace State Community College to complete the professional portion of the program.
The University of West Alabama offers training at all levels for Emergency Medical Technicians. Once students successfully complete a program they will be awarded a certificate in either EMT Basic, EMT Intermediate or EMT Paramedic. Once certificates, are obtained, students will then have the option to further their education by working towards an Associate in Applied Science Degree for EMT Paramedics. Students will then be eligible to apply for jobs in fire and rescue departments, ambulance services, medical facilities and other emergency departments.
